Certified plumber recommends Saniflo above-floor plumbing to avoid high cost of breaking concrete at South Carolina Egg Farm

When the managers of SAVJ Warehouse asked Jonathan Capps to create a restroom in a 12 x 12 space, his professional experience led him to recommend Saniflo’s Saniaccess 2 — a solution that would save time and money.

Problem
JOHNSONVILLE, SC — SAVJ Warehouse, a large egg farm distribution center, employs over forty workers. According to licensed plumber Jonathan Capps of Capps Plumbing of South Carolina, the warehouse staff previously shared a single bathroom. With a 12-foot x 12-foot room available in the management office, the owners wanted to provide staff with the convenience of secondary restrooms, complete with two toilets and two sinks.
Providing commercial, residential and 24-hour service, Capps is a certified and insured plumber with 15 years of experience serving Marion County and the surrounding areas. “When the warehouse asked me to take on the project, I immediately recommended Saniflo,” says Capps. “I have used Saniflo previously and that’s the solution I proposed in order for me to do the work.”

SAVJ had two options: They could have busted through the concrete to tap into an existing drain line. Or they could save time and money by going with Capps’ recommendation.
Capps says the owners looked into conventional plumbing, but were thankful he proposed an easier, more affordable solution: “I knew it would be more cost-effective to use a Saniflo system for this project.”
Solution
Based on the type of installation, Capps decided to use two Saniflo Saniaccess 2 macerating and pump systems that could handle the plumbing drainage for two toilets and a sink. (He was able to tie a second sink into an existing drain line.)
The Saniaccess 2 is equipped with a ½-horsepower pump and a macerator whose stainless-steel blades rotate at 3,600 RPM to reduce incoming water and organic waste matter into a fine slurry. The system can then pump that reduced effluent up to 15 feet vertically or 150 feet horizontally to a soil stack that drains into a sewer system or septic tank.
The Saniaccess 2 is ideal for half-bathrooms. Intended to handle black water from the attached toilet, the Saniaccess 2 will also handle gray water drainage from a second fixture, usually a nearby sink. That is exactly how Capps used it for one of the sinks in the new warehouse bathroom.
“I installed a utility sink on the other side, outside of the bathroom, which drains into one of the 1½” inlets located on either side of the Saniaccess 2 housing,” says Capps.
Drainage from one of the Saniflo pumps discharges through a 1-inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe running 3-feet horizontally and about 8-feet vertically before connecting to an existing drain line. The second Saniaccess 2 discharge pipe runs 12 feet before connecting to the existing drain line.
“I used an inch-and-a-half vent, tied it into an inch-and-a-half above where I pumped back into the line,” Capps explains in regard to the venting setup.
Results
According to Capps, the warehouse saved upwards of $6,000 by not breaking into the concrete floor to tie into existing drainage. “And that’s on top of labor costs,” he adds.
Capps says he completed the project within two and a half days with zero issues. “Keep in mind, I also had to frame a wall to hide the pumps behind, and I built the stalls and everything.”
The pumps have been operating well, according to Capps, “They have a lot of people working in the warehouse, so the restrooms get used quite a bit.”
